Today wasn't a rainy day, the sun was shining, albeit later than usual, in Gauteng... As the band Imagine Dragons' "Wrecked" was playing on Jacaranda 94.2, a notice to Tshwane and Jhb residents came through on my phone: Air Force Base Waterkloof would - on Thursday, 3 February - be hosting a SA Air Force Prestige Evening as part of the SAAF's birthday celebration...
For an hour or more I forgot the message, as my 24 year-old son, a postgraduate student at Tuks, was leaving "the nest" and all efforts were focused on getting him there "in one piece" and with at least most of his possessions. How I wish that I could share this proud moment with Leo!
Upon my return from Tuks' Future Africa campus, low-flying aircraft over my "home office" in Centurion interrupted a few business conversations. How I wish Leo was here to explain exactly what was going down. He would, of course, also try and arrange to attend the event (this became more difficult over time) to take photographs...
