Leo, my wife Ann and I came a long way together. We were colleagues at IBM, touched sides again during an aeronautical project and often met him as a dear friend of the Pretoria Photographic Society.
The gallery of this website attests to the quality and versatility of his work. He often judged for PPS, where his thoughtful comments coached and encouraged our members. He was eager to help other people and was a regular at our events.
He and I shared a love for Olympus cameras, and indeed the headline pic on this website shows him in action with one. Now I have the privilege of being the custodian of some of his equipment, and it will be loved as he loved it.
Leo's sense of humour was legendary. Whenever I was near him I had to listen carefully for the hidden joke, and he would rib me if I missed one. Not only puns. He introduced me to paraprosdokians. These are figures of speech where the latter part of a sentence or phrase is unexpected and frequently humorous. One of his examples: "Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak."
The afterlife has become a richer, more beautiful place with Leo in it.
